Beachgoers urged to avoid water at LA County beaches due to rainfall contaminants

Los Angeles County beachgoers are being advised to stay away from any water contact, especially in the vicinity of storm drains, creeks, and rivers.

It is anticipated that the Ocean Quality Rain Advisory will continue to apply to all county beaches until Thursday at 8 a.m.

“Ocean and bay recreational waters, especially near discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers can be contaminated with bacteria, chemicals, debris, trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas after a rain fall,” the statement stated.

Anyone entering the water in these regions runs the danger of becoming ill, according to public health officials, and the advisory could be prolonged if the rains persist.
