Nearly 40 acres of brush fire are blazing near residences in Jurupa Valley, and firefighters are fighting the fire.
Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department workers reported the Clay Fire at approximately 5:15 p.m. near Pedley Road and Van Buren Boulevard.
Firefighters said that thick fuels in the Santa Ana Riverbed were causing the flames to advance slowly. Firefighters reported that the fire had burned little over 38 acres as of 7 p.m.
The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed by the crews.
Dozens of ground workers worked below, with at least one water-dropping helicopter visible with SkyCal overhead.
Following the Clay Fire, which started last week, this is the second fire to occur in the same area in recent memory. Crews were able to swiftly suppress that fire.
