While firefighters continued fighting multiple wildfires in Los Angeles County, all mandatory evacuation orders have been removed in the Kenneth Fire, which ravaged 1,000 acres in the West Hills area.
In the San Fernando Valley neighborhood, the brush fire started close to Victory Boulevard and Gilmore Street, close to the 101 Freeway, and is currently 35% contained. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, firefighters were able to set up perimeter lines to prevent the wildfire from expanding further despite the flames heading southward toward more populous neighborhoods with residences.
Strong Santa Ana winds had pushed the flames forward, and firefighters encountered difficulties due to the area’s rough topography, but they managed to contain the fire. Later Thursday night, all obligatory warnings and evacuations were canceled.
It was 35% contained at 1,000 acres by Friday midday, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
At least ten people have been killed by wildfires that have destroyed over 30,000 acres in Los Angeles County this week, burning over 10,000 buildings, including numerous houses. Two of the five most damaging fires in California history are the Eaton Fire in northeastern LA County and the Palisades Fire in the coastal town next to Malibu.
