Ex-wife of slain Woodland Hills doctor charged with murder in targeted hit

Prosecutors have accused the ex-wife of a Woodland Hills doctor who was killed in what they say was an ambush-style attack with murder.

Ahang Mirshojae, 53, has been charged by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office with the murder of her ex-husband, Dr. Hamid Mirshojae, along with special circumstance charges of murder for financial gain and lying in wait.

“She has been charged with, effectively hiring a hit man, a gentleman named Evan Hardman, who has been previously charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon,” spoke District Attorney Nathan Hochman at a press conference on Monday afternoon. “The depth of the deceit and violence involved in this case is chilling, and we will not rest until justice is served.”

According to Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell, the department has been working tirelessly and continuously to pursue the facts and catch the guilty parties.

“For the last four months the LAPD, alongside our partner agencies, has worked tirelessly to bring those responsible for this ambush-style murder to justice,” he stated.

On Tuesday, Ahang Mirshojae is anticipated to appear in court. On Friday, her 26-year-old co-defendant Sarallah Jawed, who is also accused of murder, appeared before a judge.

Four people have been charged by the DA’s office in relation to Dr. Mirshojae’s passing. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the doctor was shot and killed on the evening of August 23 in the parking lot of his medical clinic along Topanga Canyon. According to authorities, Hardman, the alleged gunman, fired several times while hiding in a corner of the clinic, waiting for Mirshojae to go.

Ashley Rose Sweeting, 40, who is accused of accessory after the fact, is also scheduled to appear in court on Monday. She is thought by authorities to have driven Hardman to and from the shooting scene. At a court hearing on Thursday, she entered a not guilty plea and admitted to having one or more violent or major felony convictions in the past.

Evan Hardman, 41, the fourth suspect, was arrested on Tuesday and is currently in Houston awaiting extradition.

A fifth suspect, Valley Village resident Shawn Randolph, 46, was taken into custody by police. The prosecution is awaiting additional police investigation and has decided not to press charges against Randolph at this time.

According to public documents, Ahang and the doctor got divorced in 2010.

Prosecutors have charged Jawed and Hardman with murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Both Jawed and Hardman are accused of murder for financial gain under unique circumstances. Hardman was also accused of laying in wait with the purpose to kill the victim.

Prosecutors claim that Jawed assaulted the doctor in May, months before the fatal shooting. It is also said that Ahang Mirshojae hired Jawed and Hardman to carry out that crime.

They also claim that Jawed drove Hardman out of state a few days later and helped to facilitate the murder.

Judge Susan J. De Witt of Superior Court was informed by Deputy District Attorney Ben Schwartz that Sweeting reportedly drove the gunman to and from the crime scene in a “situation that appeared to be a murder for hire.”
