A supermarket store in Tennessee has closed unexpectedly, citing a “significant amount of shoplifting” as the reason.
Customers who shopped at Save-A-Lot were notified of the store’s closing through a door sign.
According to WREG, a local CBS station in Memphis, the Save-A-Lot on the corner of South Perkins Road and Knight Arnold Road had to close its doors because of the high rate of shoplifting.
“I was surprised,” remarked Temeka Jones, a local shopper.
“What kind of theft is it?”
She recounted her visit to the grocery store on July 16 and the sign informing consumers of the closure. “We regret to inform you that this establishment is currently closed as a result of theft,” the sign stated.

The Save-A-Lot owner told WREG that he had hoped to turn around the Memphis store, but frequent theft and poor sales prevented him from doing so.
He went on to say that the store’s losses were more than those of his other eight locations put together.
The remaining food items will be shared with other Save-A-Lots in an effort to reduce food waste.
Across 32 states, you may find approximately 900 Save-A-Lot locations.
Consumers have voiced their displeasure with the local crime rate, saying that it discourages them from patronizing local companies and drives away locals.
According to The US Sun, the closest Save-A-Lot is on Getwell and Park, while other stores tend to be further away.
It takes nine minutes to drive to the Save-A-Lot, but those without cars have a considerably longer journey.
The low costs at Save-A-Lot are one of the reasons why customers appreciate shopping there, according to Shandra W.
This region is frequented by many people who walk. The community will undoubtedly be greatly impacted by this.
Two more locations will also be unavailable to Fresh Market customers.
Both the Fresh Market on US Highway 280 in Birmingham, Alabama, and the popular grocer at 3468 Lithia Pinecrest Road in Valrico, Florida, will shortly close their doors.
The decision to close the sites was reached following a “regular review” and “detailed organizational analysis,” according to an official statement from Fresh Market.
