The victim reported to police at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday that she had been the victim of a grand theft that had happened on the 2600 block of Cowper Street just moments before.
The octogenarian, according to investigators, was strolling with her spouse when a light-colored sedan carrying a female passenger and a male driver drew up. The victim was asked for directions to the freeway by the female suspect.
Police said that once the victim offered the directions, the woman thanked the victim, moved toward the car, and exited the sedan. Subsequently, the woman seemingly expressed gratitude by gifting the victim with a necklace around her neck and a ring on her finger.
The victim made an unsuccessful attempt to return the items. The suspects got in their car and drove away.
When the victim returned home, according to the police, she discovered her own gold jewelry had been taken. The jewelry was worth over a thousand dollars.
