WFCN – Officials reported that during an early-morning rollover collision on the Southwest Side on Sunday, two persons were killed and two more were critically hurt.
A crash occurred in the Little Village neighborhood, close to West 26th Street and South California Boulevard, at approximately five in the morning, according to Chicago police. The Cook County Jail and the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse are both close by.
The two deceased individuals were occupants of the cars involved in the collision, while the remaining victims are all adult victims.
According to police, one victim was brought to Mount Sinai Hospital on Sunday morning in critical condition before being declared deceased.
The Chicago Fire Department reported that three more adults were first taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital. Later on Sunday afternoon, police reported that one of the individuals had been declared deceased.
One of the drivers, a 37-year-old woman, is reported by the police as being in serious condition. There is another individual, only named as male, whose status is indicated as critical.
It wasn’t immediately evident what caused the crash.
Neighbor Edquinette West remarked, “I thought someone had hit the building, the way it sounded.”
Residents of Lawndale Garden Homes will always remember the sound of the early-morning crash.
“Just metal crushing… loud, loud metal crushing,” Gwendoyln Baldwin, a neighbor, remarked.

The driver of the silver KIA SUV was locked inside, as observed by neighbor Andre Stewart. He broke the front windshield together with another individual in an attempt to save her. According to Stewart, the victim was dressed in a Chicago Police Department outfit. If she is an officer, CPD would not confirm it.
“All I could hear was boom!” When it suddenly began to move in this direction, Stewart recalled hearing a loud boom, as if something had exploded. “There is a lady in there, the other guy looked behind me and said she is still breathing that’s when we picked up some of the stuff from the accident and stating beating on windshield to get in the car.”
Stewart said that the fire department completed the task with perfect timing. The KIA driver, a woman, aged 37, was sent to Stroger Hospital.
Baldwin stated the area frequently sees crashes brought on by drivers speeding on 26th Street.
“They recently added those cameras, but the camera is not going to stop anyone from speeding,” Baldwin explained.
Baldwin made a 9-1-1 call after hearing the collision. According to her, concrete bollards were installed four months ago to shield their cars from collisions at the intersection of 26th & California. Iron fencing had been installed to safeguard their residences.
For the safety of the inhabitants, and it was successful. Baldwin said, “My automobile is fine.
