Aguibou Karambe, a Manhattan resident, entered a guilty plea on Tuesday, Aug. 6, in Orange County Court, for second-degree attempted robbery. The offense is related to an event that occurred in the hamlet of Monroe in February 2023, according to Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler’s announcement on Friday, Aug. 9.
The AT&T store at 520 NY-17M was entered by Karambe and three other individuals wearing masks on February 28, 2023, according to Hoovler’s office. Inside, one of the men shoved the store clerk into the rear office after grabbing him by the neck.
The district attorney’s office reports that one of the robbers claimed to have a pistol in his jacket pocket.
After that, they made off with a number of electronic devices from the store. Their whereabouts were discovered in Mount Vernon, a city in Westchester County, along with the nabbed items from the heist, according to the authorities.

In his plea deal, Karambe acknowledged, according to the DA’s office, that he and another person were there when he attempted to steal goods by force.
The plea deal recommends a five-year prison term for Karambe, with an additional three years of monitoring after his release. On Wednesday, October 16th, sentencing will take place.
Hoovler issued a statement denouncing the heist as “brazen” and “ill-conceived.”
“Thankfully, the rapid response of police and their careful investigation ensured that the perpetrators were promptly located and taken into custody,” he said.
