2-Alarm Fire at Charlotte Airport Parking Deck Leaves Two Officers and One Other Injured

CHARLOTTE (WFCN) —

Charlotte Fire Department reports that a two-alarm fire in a parking deck at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport has injured three people, including two police officers.

At 5488 Josh Birmingham Parkway, a second fire alarm went off at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Members of the emergency crew arrived to find the hourly parking deck engulfed in flames and smoke.

According to Queen City News, four vehicles were destroyed on the fourth story of the parking deck, and first responders are currently searching for a possible drowning victim in Lake Norman.

Two police officers and a citizen were treated on the spot and released; one officer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

All highways and parking operations have reopened, with the exception of the fourth floor of the Hourly Deck, according to the Charlotte Airport as of 10:17 a.m. The fifth story, which is above the affected area, is also off-limits to passengers as a safety measure.

The fire, which began in the engine compartment of one of the vehicles, was found by officials to have been accidental.

An estimated $105k in damages were caused to four vehicles in total.
